SA: Ford posts another loss in 2001
ADELAIDE, April 17 AAP - Ford Australia has posted a $5.5 million after-tax loss forthe 2001 calendar year.
The company said today the result came on turnover of $2.8 billion and was a significantimprovement on the $16.1 million it lost in 2000.
President Geoff Polites said Ford was reasonably happy with the result consideringthe major investment program the company had undertaken ahead of the release of the newFalcon later this year and other new products.
"We recognised that Ford would record a loss," Mr Polites said.
"However, the final result is better than we'd expected earlier in the year.
"We are undergoing the most significant period of investment in future product in thehistory of Ford Australia.
"Those costs have had a significant impact on our results.
"We expect to break even in 2002 and return to profit in 2003 once our new Falcon hasbeen on sale for a full 12 months."
