FED: BHP goes to court as workers prepare to return to work

Mining giant BHP is taking its gripe with striking workers to court after a national
strike cost the company about $4 million in lost production.

BHP is in the Federal Court in Brisbane today fighting for contempt proceedings against
coalminers who took part in a snap 24-hour strike on Monday.

The company is also seeking orders in the New South Wales Industrial Relations Commission
to force coalminers in the Illawarra region back to work.

About 600 coalminers in NSW voted to extend their strike until 11pm (AEDT) today, …
